Most dismissed it as superstitious legend. But for the villagers of Mayapore, it was a living nightmare.

The village elder, a man named Shaman, recognized the insignia on Indy's leather jacket—a symbol of the British colonial presence, which he hoped might bring justice. But Indy was no soldier. Still, the elder showed him the horror: a sacred marker stone, once part of a set of five Sankara stones , now stolen. And then he showed him the empty cots.
