Townsend closes her case file. On the cover, she’s scribbled a single line:

Townsend’s phone buzzed. Lakin’s solicitor was demanding the laptop be returned. She had 48 hours.

“Because a good detective doesn’t just watch the video,” she says. “She reads the log.”
