Slow Love Podcast Lisa Portolan Co-host Met At Film Event May 2026

Arlo leaned forward. "So why don't we make something slow instead?"

They recorded the first episode in Arlo's cramped apartment, surrounded by microphones and tangled cables. Lisa spoke into the foam windscreen like she was confessing to a friend. "I'm Lisa Portolan," she said. "And I used to think love was fast. Then I met a man who taught me about whale songs." slow love podcast lisa portolan co-host met at film event

Lisa laughed, then cried, then kissed him right there in the lobby—right where they should have met the first time, if only they'd been paying attention to the real story instead of the one on screen. Arlo leaned forward

"We met at a film event. The film was terrible. The projector broke. And thank god it did—because sometimes the fastest way to find something real is to be forced to sit still."

Six months later, at another film festival (a better one, with functioning projectors), Arlo handed Lisa a small velvet pouch. Inside was a thumb drive. On the thumb drive was a single audio file: the sound of his heartbeat, recorded through a hydrophone, underwater, because he said whale songs made him think of her.

"It's slow," he said. "But it's yours."
