Add 2–3 inches of hot water to the clogged side. The water acts as a hydraulic fluid, transmitting force more effectively than air. Adding a squirt of dish soap can help lubricate the clog.

Place the cup plunger directly over the drain of the clogged basin, completely covering the opening. Tilt the plunger to fill the cup with water (no trapped air). Ensure the rim of the rubber cup makes flat, continuous contact with the sink bottom.
