She went to the Driver tab. The date was current—only two months old. So not outdated.
She force-rebooted. When Windows came back, everything looked wrong. The resolution was stuck at 1024x768. The taskbar icons were enormous. Her second monitor showed only a blue screen.
Under Display adapters , she saw two entries: Intel UHD Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 . The NVIDIA one had a yellow triangle.
“That’s why you download the driver first , then disconnect from the internet, then install. Or you use the built-in Windows tool: Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates. Sometimes network driver updates show up there because Microsoft has tested them.”
She swapped in her backup wired mouse. Same issue. Then she unplugged everything, held down the power button to drain residual charge, and prayed to the tech gods. When the machine came back up, the cursor still twitched like a nervous insect.
Marco peered at the screen. “That’s not ghosts. That’s drivers.”
